Wanda Koop dreamed of being an artist from a young age, but she didn’t always have the resources to take classes. Generous donors gave her and other young artists a helping hand by supporting WAG Studio. Check out this video of the renowned artist sharing her story and hear how she marched into WAG Director Dr. Ferdinand Eckhardt’s office asking to be able to continue art classes. The rest is history. To date, the WAG has featured her work in five solo shows and six group exhibitions, and acquired many of her paintings along the way. In 1998, she founded Art City, a storefront art centre bringing together visual artists and inner-city youth to explore the creative process. Koop is the Honorary Chair for this year’s Gallery Ball, which raises funds for the WAG’s youth outreach and education programs. And in honour of its 20th anniversary, a portion of this year’s Ball proceeds will go to Art City. By supporting the Ball, you could change someone’s life through art.
